I’ve been reading debates about whether there should be an expiration date on eligibility to vote for the inverse of this quotation – selfish old people voting because they won’t have to suffer the consequences. Not that there’s an argument that all old people vote selfishly by any means. I’m sure most actually subscribe to the attitude expressed in your drawing.

Sadly, the opposite is also true, society leaves greatness behind when it knowingly elects an old man who would tear down trees when he finds he himself can’t benefit from them.
